Hamburgers Costs More? Blame The Drought

After Ranchers Sell Off Herds, Supply Tightens, And Prices Rise

The historic droughts plaguing parts of the West, Southeast and High Plains is behind an increase in the cost of beef.

Ranchers are selling off their herds for slaughter, rather than retaining many for future breeding -- which leads eventually to a shortfall in cattle, a tight supply for beef, and high prices. That's good for the ranchers that have cattle to sell, but not so much for customers.
