Firefighter Shortage In Face Of Wildfires

45 Fires In 11 States Are Burning 1 Million Acres

Fire crews are stretched thin, and requests for reinforcements are going unfilled in some cases, as crews battle an outbreak of wildfires in the Western United States.

Across 11 states, 54 wildfires are burning, and they have consumed 1.5 million acres. Overall, the fire season to date has burned more -- well more than 3.4 acres -- than is burned in an average season overall.
