The off-gassing of dangerous formaldehyde used in the glue and other materials in the building of the trailers provided by FEMA to Hurricane Katrina victims...and FEMA's refusal to do safe home testing on these trailers...has angered a House committee looking into the growing scandal.
In the aftermath of Katrina, nearly 100,000 displaced families have been housed in FEMA trailers. Formaldehyde gas has been linked to cancer, chronic bronchitis and other illnesses.
The deaths of two residents of FEMA trailers have reportedly been linked to exposure to this toxin. Evidence that FEMA delayed testing the trailers for the chemical in order to avoid future litigation suggests that yet another Katrina-related FEMA scandal is unfolding nearly two years after the storm.
