Paper or Plastic? A New Stylish Answer

Trendy Designer Bag Proclaims "I'm Not A Plastic Bag" -- And Ladies Line Up For It

On our way into work this morning we couldn''t help but notice the droves of people waiting in line for Whole Foods at Columbus Circle here in Manhattan... We love organics as much as well, anyone but in line in the rain? On further inspection we found the Whole Foods is selling Anya Hindmarch''s “I'm not a plastic bag” bag. A simple canvas bag with the message “I'm not a plastic bag” written across it in large type. These bags have been hugely popular in Europe and the US and tend to sell out in hours. The ladies in line were eagerly anticipating the 20,000 bags on sale at the Time Warner Center''s Whole Foods Market. Going for $15 a bag it is quite a steal compared to Anya Hindmarch''s usual price tags and the lower price point makes the bags accessible to anyone -- willing to wait in line. It''s estimated that Americans use 100 billion plastic bags each year and it is the designer''s goal for for her clients (including Petra Nemocova, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley) to use this bag instead of paper or plastic -- perhaps in their visit to Whole Foods Market today. We love that we can wear our eco-consciousness on our sleeve (or on our shoulder) while the bag's message can influence others to do the same. This bag is stylish, comfortable and makes our trips to the grocery store or drug store guilt free -- but we are glad we have one already and can skip the long wait in the rain. UPDATE: Bags Sold Out in 75 mins! Photo: Gloria Dawson For more information on when and where the bags will be on sale next, visit www.anyahindmarch.com.
