90-Degree Heat, From Washington State To Washington D.C. A band of 90-plus degree heat is forecast again today across a wide area of the United States, even as cooler temperatures bring relief to parts of the northern plains, Great Lakes, Appalachians and Northeast. The heat band stretches from the Pacific Northwest -- where excessive heat warnings are in place and 100-plus degree heat is forecast through much of Washington state -- through the Rockies and the Southwest, across the South and up the East coast as far as the capital region. Temperature will top out above 100 degrees in Southern California and Nevada, across much of Arizona and parts of Texas. Parts of Georgia and South Carolina have warned residents to take care because of intense heat there. The heat wave, like the wildfires, drought and floods gripping the nation this summer may not be signs that global warming's effects are near and present. But at the least, they are signs of things to come if runaway climate change isn't curtailed.
