An expanding desert in the U.S. Southwest could bring Dust Bowl conditions to a wide and parched area that already competes for Colorado River spoils, according to a new scientific analysis of climate models. The good news is that the study was based on the assumption that nothing is done to slow greenhouse gas emissions. Presumably, action could keep some water flowing to Las Vegas and Phoenix so the Mexican climate doesn't spread north.
