Milford Flats Fire Is One Of Dozens Scorching The West For more recent updates on this story see: Utah Fire, 10% Contained, Threatens Farms List of 15 Biggest Fires In the Country Today The Milford Flat fire in Utah had burned 300,000 acres
as of Monday afternoon, leaving a path of devastation -- more than 300 structures burned and at least two deaths -- in its scorched wake. It's one of seven fires burning in Utah, and one of dozens that have erupted in the West in recent days, as a record heat wave exacerbated unusually dry conditions. The fire remained uncontained Monday afternoon, and there was no indication yet when it would be contained. The stage for these fires was set this winter, when little snow fell, leaving relatively little moisture flowing out of mountain snowpacks into the valleys. Weeks without significant rainfall contributed, and the scorching heat in recent days only aided and abetted.
