Triple-Digit Temperatures Contribute To Fire Risk The heat wave in the Western United States will continue today, as parts of California, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado could approach record-breaking highs. "Scorching heat and dry weather in the Southwest will continue through the weekend. The coast will remain cooler and comfortable with a cool flow off the ocean, while the Desert Southwest will continue to approach 120 degrees," the weather-forecasting site, Accuweather.com wrote on its Web site. "Thursday, 8 states reached 100, with some all-time record highs. Reno, Nev., hit 108 degrees on Thursday, breaking the daily record of 100 degrees set in 1970 and tying the all-time record high temperature set on July 11, 2002." A lesser heat wave is expected to saddle the East with 90-degree heat this weekend.
