Smaller Fish Show Contamination, A Worrying Sign Smaller fish show unhealthy levels of contamination, a sign that the Great Lakes are growing more polluted, not less, according to a new report by an environmental group in Canada. The Great Lakes -- the world's largest freshwater reservoir -- face a variety of environmental threats, including contamination from industrial chemicals. Typically, the most damaging chemicals -- from a human health perspective -- are more concentrated in larger predatory fish. Those fish accumulate the toxins in the lesser members of the food chain, building up a heavy burden over the course of their lives. With smaller fish showing signs of contamination, according to the report, the pollution trend appears headed in the wrong direction. To read the report, click
