Istanbul cancels concert due to security concerns Istanbul has canceled plans to host a Live Earth concert July 7. The Live Earth Turkey show was canceled due to security concerns, particularly as the country nears a national election, according to published reports. The Live Earth concert festival is meant to raise awareness about climate change by putting artists on every continent on Earth, and broadcasting the show live via a variety of media.
Al Gore had visited turkey only days ago to announce the latest plans for Live Earth Turkey for the concerts with local organizers. He held a public event at the Cirigan Palace. The lineup for the show had not been announced. There will still be a show on each continent, so the canceling of the Turkey show does not upset one of the concert festival's main selling points.
