European and American air regulators agreed to cut emissions on transatlantic flights this week, setting the stage not only for increased fuel efficiency but also reduced delays for passengers. The cuts will come from increased efficiency, which will not only take a bite out of a major greenhouse gas producing industry, but also cut costs for the beleaguered airlines and reduce delays for passengers. That's right. By cutting down on unnecessary taxiing before take off, and circling before landing, regulators estimate they can reduce pollution and cut down delays on the average flight by three minutes. We can all breathe easy about that, according to a story in the June 19 Dallas Morning News.
