The post-carbon future just got a scholarship, as 284 U.S. colleges and universities pledged to go carbon neutral as soon as possible. It's a huge step, not only because of the vast number of campus buildings and vehicle fleets that will now be subjected to more intense scrutiny for environmental performance, but also because colleges are the incubators for the next generation of business and civic leaders.
