Senate Takes Up Energy Efficiency Debate

Share

By Dan Shapley

Proposals are still very much in draft, but both the House and Senate are considering ways to make the nation more energy efficient. Expect increased fuel economy to be a requirement in cars manufactured in the next several years, and possibly greater efficiency in a range of other consumer products -- including household appliances. While the Senate takes up the debate today, House Democrats have been fighting amongst themselves about their version of the bill. Whatever is passed by each house of Congress will have to be reconciled before it is passed along for the President's consideration, and that could make for a long hot summer, according to a story in the June 9 Houston Chronicle.
