Hyundai Elantra vs. Ford Focus: Interior

2011 Hyundai Elantra:
On the outside, the Elantra is a small car, but with an interior passenger and cargo space of over 110 cubic feet, the Elantra is just large enough to be considered a mid-size car by the U.S. government. Sitting inside, the Elantra certainly feels larger than it looks — thanks to the smart design. Hidden here and there within the Elantra you'll find plenty of spaces to store the various accoutrements of modern life. Don't worry, you'll still forget about that stuff after a while — nobody has yet come up with a solution to clutter.

2012 Ford Focus:
The Focus is available as both a sedan and a hatchback — which gives it an instantly huge advantage in the functionality category. While the sedan has significantly less interior space than the Elantra, the hatchback provides interior space in droves: a total of 114.5 cubic feet encompasses a massive 44.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. Much as with the Elantra, the designers of the Focus put a lot of effort into providing ample storage.

And the winner is: Ford Focus
There's no contest here. A four-door sedan can't compete against a five-door hatchback on functionality.
