The Most Fuel-Efficient Cars of 2011

Electric cars like the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt top the list, but overall the number of fuel-efficient cars that get 30 mpg or better is growing. Two fuel-efficient SUVs and one station wagon make the list, too, thanks to hybrid and clean diesel technologies.

The venerable midsize family sedan is synonymous with hybrids, and it still leads the pack. Further, Consumer Reports has said that it beats the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt in value, even though it takes about twice as much gas to get around in it.

Good Housekeeping selected the Prius as its best choice for a high-MPG car, lauding its "good performance with optimal gas mileage for city driving in particular."
