In Russia, a record heat wave led to catastrophic wildfires. Interestingly, the stagnant position of the jet stream set the stage for both the Pakistan flooding and the Russian wildfires. In the U.S., 12 states and several cities, mainly in the Southeast into New England, experienced a record-hot summer.
