Many Tornadoes

Just as global warming is expected to produce stronger rain storms, it could produce more tornadoes. In the U.S. there were 1,300 tornadoes (a number that may be revised down after further analysis), ranking it among the top 10 years for tornado activity since 1950. Minnesota had a record number of hurricanes, 104, and was the most twisted state in the union for the first time on record.

At least one fatality was attributed to the severe storm which brought high winds and rain to parts of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.
