Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders sent a clear message to President Bush and Congress today: Tackling climate change is a moral issue. Their unstated message, which will no doubt also ring clear in the run up to the 2008 presidential election was: Don't forget, we're citizens. We vote. So do our congregations. Their letter, published in two Capital Hill newspapers, was signed by top officials of the National Council of Churches, the Islamic Society of North America and the political arm of the Reform branch of Judaism. Religious groups have increasingly been shedding their traditionally conservative political views when it comes to global climate change. Many see an imperative to care for God's creation, which translates into a distinctly earthly stewardship ethic. For more on today's letter, check out the
