Bury the carbon and burn the coal, and we all may have cheap electricity for years to come. That's the idea behind the scientific struggle to find an affordable way to strip carbon from coal and bury it underground, so that power plants can continue burning the cheap domestic fuel without heating up the atmosphere. Known as carbon sequestration, the process is at the heart of many proposals -- particularly those originating in coal states -- to plan for the nation's energy future, according to a story in the May 13 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
