A revolution is underway in California, where a third city is taking the paper-or-plastic debate to city hall. Oakland, like San Francisco and Berkeley before it, is considering a ban on plastic bags. Along with the ban would come aids for people to use reusable canvas bags, because when it comes to making plastic from petroleum or paper from forests, the best choice is neither, according to the May 11 story in the San Francisco Chronicle.
