Apple vowed to usher in an era of environmentally-benign computer manufacturing Wednesday. CEO Steve Jobs said the company will phase out the use of several toxic chemicals, and vamp up consumer recycling programs. Greenpeace, which had rated Apple last among computer manufacturers on those two measures in a December report on the industry, said the effort was headed in the right direction, but doesn't go quite far enough.
