PepsiCo will walk away with the Environmental Protection Agency's top award for a corporation today because it has pledged to buy enough renewable energy credits to account for its entire U.S. business - which uses as much electricity as 90,000 homes. The company's $2 million plan to invest in wind, biomass and hydroelectric power projects is the largest of its kind, though smaller companies have previously taken the same step. Environmentalists say it will help prop up the market for renewable energy, which will lead to more investment in technology that produces electricity with far less pollution than fossil fuel-burning plants.
