California is poised to become the first U.S. state to ban incandescent light bulbs, after a key committee vote in the state legislature. The set the stage for a sharp reduction in carbon dioxide emissions when all bulbs are replaced with trendy compact fluorescent bulbs, which cost more but last longer and use less electricity.
