It's already the capital of the world, the city that never sleeps, the Big Apple... But Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to give New York yet another nickname: "The first environmentally sustainable 21st century city." Ok, it doesn't have the same ring as some of the other nicknames. But Bloomberg's 127-point PlaNYC is winning praise from environmental advocates and city planners around the world. Some of the sexiest provisions include planting 1 million trees, ensuring all residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, encouraging green building practices and retiring antiquated power plants. Its most controversial element is an $8 charge on drivers in parts of Manhattan
