Record High Heating Fuel, Gas Prices Follow $100 Oil
Energy Conservation Is an Economic Lifeline
Wholesale heating oil and gasoline prices jumped into record-high territory along with oil futures, which closed the day of trading Wednesday well above $99 a barrel, after having briefly breached the $100 mark for the first time in history.
That means retail gasoline and heating fuel costs will follow suit, and quickly, according to the Los Angeles Times. AAA warned of that 2008 would be a year of record-high prices at the pump (at $3.049 per gallon, it's already nearly $73 cents higher than a year ago).
