Tropical cyclone Jokwe, currently a Category 1 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, is expected to grow in strength and lash Mozambique as a Category 2 storm with 109-mph winds, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
The storm already swept across Madagascar, which has been slammed repeatedly by tropical cyclones this season. In February, Cyclone Ivan killed more than 80 people there, and made 200,000 homeless.
The cyclone could cause heavy damage in Mozambique, which suffered the worst floods in memory in January and February, according to
Reuters. Tens of thousands of people evacuated during those floods.
