Oh sure, it might sound like just another money-making scheme from the greeting card companies, but www.toiletbirthdays.com is so much more than that.

When my friend Emma Hogbin and I realized that the bathroom accounts for more than half of all indoor water use, and the toilet about 30% of that, we decided to come up with a fun way to learn about water conservation that wasn't anywhere near as preachy as the usual "green" stuff thrown our way. Thus, toiletbirthdays.com was born.

Emma did the hard stuff. She was the first person to notice there was a date stamped inside the toilet tank (the toilet's birthday) and she designed the site. But now it's up to me (and hopefully you) to grab the camera, look for the date in the tank, and record the toilet birthday on the site,

And, I know, I know, when you missed your best friend Amy's birthday last year, it led to a huge fight, and the last thing you need is another birthday to remember. But the site actually remembers your toilet's birthday for you, and by following the tips found at toiletbirthdays.com, you'll help conserve water, which is good for all of us. Besides, unlike Amy, your toilet never tried to steal your boyfriend.

Add your toilet today at www.toiletbirthdays.com.

The Daily Green's Community News section is a forum for our audience to get the word out about issues that matter to them, enlist support, get help and advice, celebrate successes or share humor. The best submissions are personal (why I started this venture, why I think this is a good idea, how this works for me) short and to the point (400 words or so) and written in a style that speaks directly to the audience as peers (not like an ad or press release). E-mail submissions to news@thedailygreen.com and include "community news" in the subject line. Photos are also welcome, provided the submitter has rights to publish the image. Be sure to include credit and caption information.
