The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) -- the membership organization for transit systems around the country -- is running a video contest to highlight the money-saving, energy-saving and environmental benefits of "dumping the pump" and riding public transportation this summer and beyond. It's not hard to join the contest:

  1. First, folks should grab their phone, digital camera, or video camera and tell America why they’re Dumping the Pump this summer. Is it to save money? Help the environment? Reduce stress for a better quality of life? No matter what the reason is, APTA wants to see how creative people can make it.
  2. Upload the video to YouTube and – this is important – tag the submission with "dumpthepump." APTA will find it and add it to all the other videos at the Dump the Pump YouTube channel.
  3. The best part. They can win an iPod touch PLUS free public transportation on their local transit system for a year if their video is chosen by APTA as having the most overall impact! The second place winner will receive six months of free transit. Third prize is three months of free transit. Other prizes may be announced.

The deadline for submissions in September 18th. See all details and rules.
