Nuclear power has the potential to produce abundant, clean electricity at a time when carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants and global warming have finally put the issue of pollution from these smokestacks at the top of everyone's list of environmental concerns (that's something acid rain, toxic mercury and mountaintop-removal coal mining failed to do).
But there are pesky issues with nuclear ... like how secure are those plants? and what do we do with all the radioactive waste, which remains dangerous for something like a million years...?
So is it wise to build mini nuclear power plants in backyards across America? Our cheeky friends at Zaproot ask the question in the lead story of their weekly newscast.
