Global Green USA will honor leading innovators for their extraordinary contributions at the 8th Annual Designing a Sustainable and Secure World Awards event at New York's Ritz-Carlton, Battery Park on Monday, December 3rd. The Awards embody the environmental spirit and vision of Mikhail S. Gorbachev and Global Green USA. Created in 1994, these Awards celebrate the success and courage of extraordinary individuals, companies and organizations that recognize the connection between humankind and nature.

“For the first time, all of our honorees are leaders from the corporate world,” said Matt Petersen, President and CEO of Global Green USA, “In a year when an unprecedented number of companies are deciding on going green, American companies should look to this year’s award winners and the innovative results they have achieved through a balanced approach to sustainability which have also proven to be profitable.”

In a year when most companies are rushing to “go green”, Global Green USA is honoring five corporate leaders who were pioneering green initiatives before it was trendy:

  • Green Building Design Award: ALBANESE ORGANIZATION, INC., Russell C. Albanese, President. A leader in sustainable development in New York City, the Albanese Organization built America’s first environmentally advanced residential tower, the Solaire, and is currently building one of the greenest residential high rises in the world, the Visionaire, in Battery Park City, New York. They are helping popularize and demonstrate the benefits of creating smart green buildings that conserve water and energy.

  • Media and Entertainment Design Award: DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS, INC., David Zaslav, President and CEO. Discovery Communications has displayed unique leadership in raising popular awareness of environmental issues through its programming. With the launch of its 24-hour Planet Green channel in 2008, Discovery will bring eco-friendly programming into 50 million American households.

  • Industrial Design Award: PRATT INDUSTRIES, INC., Anthony Pratt, CEO and Chairman. Pratt Industries, the largest privately owned paper and packaging company in the world, is a leader in environmental stewardship. Their 100% recycled paper mills in New York and Georgia use no toxic chemicals and keep 700,000 tons of waste paper out of landfills.

  • Organizational Design Award: SHAKLEE CORPORATION, Sloan and Roger Barnett, Owners. Shaklee Corporation is one of the world's preeminent sustainable businesses. Founded 50 years ago, Shaklee is a leading provider of natural nutrition, personal care and environmentally-friendly household products. In 2000, Shaklee became the first company in the world to be Climate Neutral(tm) certified, resulting in a net zero impact on the environment. The company is spreading the message of caring for the planet through its network of more than 750,000 members and distributors.

  • The Founders Award: SCOTT SEYDEL, President, EvCo Research, LLC. The Chairman of the Board for Global Green USA, Scott Seydel has helped guide the organization’s dramatic growth and increased effectiveness over the past several years. Through EvCo Research, he has also made significant contributions to the recycled food packaging product industry in more than three-dozen countries. Seydel has also founded the Manhattan Prospect, a venture which will be announced at the awards.
