Dee-Dee the 100-Year-Old Lobster Escapes Fate as Dinner
Fate has intervened for Dee-Dee, a 10-kilogram lobster (that's about 22 pounds, fellow Americans) who has been residing at a Shediac, New Brunswick, fish shop.
CTV reports that Denis Breau, owner of the fish shop, said he accepted a $1,000 bid from Vancouver resident Laura-Leah Shaw, who wants to save the 100-year-old lobster, even though he received a tempting $5,000 bid from an Ontario group that wanted Dee-Dee for a banquet.
While some of Breau's customers felt he should return Dee-Dee to the high seas, he will instead go to a conservation group's aquarium.
Shaw, who is responsible for saving the crustacean, is quoted: "I would very much like to go out there and meet Dee-Dee and see that he gets taken from the fish shop into what for a lobster would be a better place."
Incidentally, Shediac claims to be the lobster capital of the world.
