COMMUNITY NEWS

I originally started the art blog, Olympia Dumpster Divers, as a way to document my City of Olympia sponsored temporary art installation, HERE TODAY: ephemeral folks, but soon realized that this was also an effective way to promote the appreciation of art from recycled, reused, discarded, unwanted, unloved, tossed and found, pre- and post- consumer waste materials from around the world.

So my focus for ODD remains information about my recycled art projects, as well as information for and about art and artists that have green/sustainable/environmental messages, especially upcycling/recycling.

While I do sometimes include posts that are making the rounds on ALL of the blogs, I also strive to do original research and compose posts about artists that are not all over the blogosphere, especially if they are local or otherwise unsung and obscure.

Olympia Dumpster Divers has helped connect me to others who share the same passion for saving the world through eco-conscious raising through art.

The Daily Green's Community News section is a forum for our audience to get the word out about issues that matter to them, enlist support, get help and advice, celebrate successes or share humor. The best submissions are personal (why I started this venture) short and to the point (400 words or so) and written in a style that speaks directly to the audience as peers (not like an ad or press release). E-mail submissions to news@thedailygreen.com and include "community news" in the subject line. Photos are also welcome, provided the submitter has rights to publish the image. Be sure to include credit and caption information.
