An environmental mystery is causing an expensive problem in the sewers of Lewiston, Maine.

What is it?

According to WMTW-TV, the local television station, nobody knows for sure. But city workers suggest that the unusual 90 foot long blob is comprised of everything from grease to rags to flour.

How it got there is anyone's guess.

A more pressing concern to the city of Lewiston is how to dislodge the thing. A plan to replace the entire sewer pipe will cost taxpayers over $40,000.

While work begins on unplugging the blob, work will have to begin on figuring out: what is it??
