Some homes still at risk, but none has been injured See today's update: Firefighters Deal With 'Disaster Tourists,' Have Fire 70% Contained Low winds have helped firefighters gain a foothold against the raging Lake Tahoe fire, which claimed 229 homes, burned more than 3,000 acres and led to the evacuation of 3,000 people earlier this week. One firefighter broke his hand, but fortunately the flames have not harmed anyone. The same can't be said for the many homes lost in one of America's premier vacation destinations.
