Planet-Friendly Fall Fashion, Take Two!

Earlier in the week we checked out some of Fall's hottest fashion trends, including high-waisted jeans, wide-leg pants and dresses, all available in sustainable, Earth-friendly fabrics. Here's part two, covering more of what's popular this season.

Tunic Tops

Don't mistake the new tunic-length tops with their fuller, more blousey cousins from the Summer collections, though these dresses/shirts can also be worn with leggings, tights or skinny jeans, depending on the length. The moody print from Mociun is an interesting mix of sustainable fabrics: 85% hemp, 15% yak!

The espresso-colored tunic by Sworn Virgins is made of the ever-popular, super-soft and drapey bamboo. It would be as comfortable for a night-in dinner party as it would be for a night out at the theater. Also in bamboo is Doie's dark chocolate tunic dress from the Shizen collection, with pretty silk detail at the elbows.

Polka Dots

Nicole Bridger's almost-dot print blouse is an edgier take on the polka dot, but gives a similar effect. Try combining dots with tweeds and plaids for a very now look.

Just a few large, graphic dots adorn Salts Organics' perfect-for-work tank top, which would work beautifully under a jacket. If you want your polkas to peek out from under wraps, there's an adorable black with white dots bra and undies set from the Natural Collection.

Vests

Vests are super-hot this year, and you can find them in all sorts of styles, from vintage woolen by Free Coffee at Cut & Paste to Stewart + Brown's turgrit tie sweater vest, which is made of soft Mongolian cashmere and is crocheted around the arms and neckline.

Wide Belts

Dainty and Dirty's obi-style belt with vines, hearts and stripes is made from a vintage chocolate brown 1970's fabric and is available in waist sizes 24-32. Brave makes a vegetable-tanned, super-wide leather belt to cinch it all in. (Traditional tanning, by which leather is softened and processed, is extremely polluting to local water resources; vegetable tanning has a much lower impact).

Extra-large Clutches

Clutches are in (I'll be keeping mine in the entirely too large bag I generally carry around), but if you can do the minimalist thing and keep everything you need in one of these you'll be extra-chic. The wafer bag from Bake Sale Designs is made from vintage cloth napkins!

For a convertible clutch (use the rings as handles, or let them fall and carry under your arm) check out Kim White's handbags, some made with vintage fabrics. Other bags are made from never-used automobile interior fabrics, like this one that was to be used in a 1983 Camaro.

With all these planet-friendly retailers and designers, there's no excuse not to have at least a couple sustainable pieces in your Fall wardrobe this year.
